Did you know that NetBotz is
now a part of APC (American Power Conversion - the UPS people)?
On October 4,
2005, NetBotz became a part of the APC family. Because VNS has
been a NetBotz partner here in the Valley since the beginning, we are the
only
APC
Gold Certified Partner here in the Central Valley, and we can provide
complete installation/configuration/infrastructure/security solutions, we
are very well suited to assist with any NetBotz opportunities you may have.
And as an APC Gold Partner, we can also provide you with the most aggressive
pricing available on these solutions! |
NetBotz is an active monitoring system designed to protect
against the threats of interruption in distributed, understaffed locations.
Three critical data points are monitored—environmental, visual and audio—to
deliver the industry’s most robust monitoring and protection solution over an IP
network.

The system includes a base station appliance, environmental
sensors, color camera, and integrated software that assesses the severity of
threats and provides notification.
NetBotz Central console is a central station platform
(application) that can communicate with, configure, manage, archive, and provide
trend analysis on data coming from as many as 500 NetBotz appliances throughout
a distributed enterprise. Users receive alarms and notification via email, phone
or pager, and in the form of text messages or video clips.
Until
NetBotz, there really hasn’t been a solution that effectively addresses the
unique needs of a remote, understaffed location. NetBotz is the only
product available today that leverages your current IT infrastructure and the
power of the web. Their award-winning, patented IP-based technology means no
custom install, no hassles, and no extra expense. The solution integrates fully
with industry-leading network monitoring systems. Best of all, the system is
housed in a self-contained plug-n-play package and can be installed and live in
less than an hour. And you can count on VNS to help you integrate this
solution into your network locally. VNS is a NetBotz Certified Solution
Provider and we are located here in the valley, with Certified NetBotz Sales
Specialists (CNSS) and Certified NetBotz Systems Engineers (CNSE) on staff to
help you optimally integrate these solutions into your environment.
Complete
Third-Party Ancillary Compatibility
Because NetBotz uses standard
interfaces, the sensors can interface with any number of CCTV (including analog
only output), glass breakage, infrared, motion, power, vibration, fluid or even
particle sensors.

Who Needs These Solutions?

As an IT professional, you’re the first to understand the
pressures associated with information and system availability. When everything
is functioning properly, you’re doing your job. When they go awry, well, let’s
just say you’re the first in line to hear about it.
In today’s IT-centric climate, planning for the unexpected is
a monumental task. It is tough enough protecting assets in the data center. Your
challenges are compounded when you consider that a fast-growing percentage of
the IT assets you manage are in less than desirable locations. The
fact is, as much as 30% of a company’s mission-critical infrastructure fits into
the category of being in environmental conditions that were not properly
prepared for technology use, and/or do not have optimal IT supervision.
There are four main areas of risk: environmental disruption,
human error, physical theft, sabotage.
Target organizations include those with distributed locations,
unmanned remote sites, leased space service level agreements, and those at risk
for unplanned downtime / business interruption event. Datacenters that
want a more secure facility or want to monitor an equipment microenvironment
more closely.
| Pain |
NetBotz Benefit |
| No technical staff at remote sites. |
Can see what's going on via live camera image. Audio
sensor will "hear" smoke alarm or other audio alarms and notify central IT.
When problems do occur, NetBotz problem isolation may avoid valuable
technical staff having to travel to the remote site. Also, camera can help
central IT person coach a non-technical on-site person. |
| Uncertain environment control due to lesser quality
equipment. Or, property manager may errantly turn A/C off on weekend or
night. |
Early warning of temperature rising or, even earlier,
airflow cessation. |
| Someone at the remote site may enter room or wiring
closet and disturb equipment. |
Upon door opening, NetBotz appliance will take multiple
pictures and e-mail to central IT (can also be triggered by motion
detection). Pictures from past events retained in NetBotz Central
Alerts View. |
| Equipment damage may result from a leaking pipe; or an
HVAC unit may leak coolant. |
Dry contact water or liquid sensors detects standing
water or other liquids, and central IT is notified. |
| Remote personnel may plug in devices such as coffeemakers
to outlets used for IT equipment. |
With Amp Detector add-on device, you can monitor power
consumption trends and set thresholds to notify central IT before power
usage reaches critical point. |
| Central IT management needs to periodically check remote
site conditions. |
Web interface allows central IT personnel to check site
conditions and see current image from room anytime. |
| Lots of remote sites to monitor. |
NetBotz Central provides centralized, monitoring and
management, with tools such as auto-discovery and mass configuration.
NetBotz appliances are SNMP objects which can be remotely monitored with
most SNMP-based network management applications. |
| A physical problem could occur with the network equipment
at the remote site. |
Advanced Device Crawlers continuously monitors and alerts
on physical "vital signs" of network equipment, including CPU temperature,
fan speed, power supply status, battery power remaining, and more. IT gets
early warning before a downtime event is induced. |
| Ensure that remote site can access key network
applications. |
Branch Checker continually verifies that remote site can
access Mail, Web, DNS, and other TCP/IP-based applications. |
NetBotz Advantages
Integrated Appliances
Most of the competitive products are a base controller box where you add
all sensors externally (camera also, if available). This is cumbersome and it is
expensive. Installation is difficult and time-consuming, and there are more
external connections that can be knocked loose. With NetBotz appliances,
installation is simple, straightforward and quick.
Camera and Surveillance Capabilities
Some competitors (AKCP, Sensaphone, RLE Falcon) offer the Axis camera as
an option. Although they can display a live image on the environment software
interface, all configuration actions must be executed via the Axis software. So,
the customer must deal with separate client interfaces.
And, they do not offer anything close to the sophisticated features available on
the NetBotz WallBotz 500, such as:
 | Capture up to 160 640x480 images with each alert
|
 | Motion sensing with ability to mask out areas of
non-interest |
 | Up to 4 camera pods |
If a customer has remote sites on slower WAN connections, you can
set the Botz to capture a large number of images, but only send a few of them
with the E-mail. If the sample images indicate suspicious activity, the user can
click a link in the E-mail to go directly to the alert to view all of the
images. Thus, the customer is able to capture large numbers of images without
absorbing bandwidth on the slow WAN link.
Beyond the standard alerting capabilities, NetBotz Surveillance lets customers
monitor up to 100 locations for motion-based “surveillance events,” easily
retrieve pictures from these events, and play back movie-like sequences of
images. NetBotz Surveillance also continuously displays live thumbnail images
for appliances licensed for Surveillance.
Appliance Software (BotzWare)
NetBotz has a significant advantage with the depth and breadth of
functionality of its base appliance software, called BotzWare. The BotzWare
Advanced View interface is far more functional than comparable offerings,
providing easy navigation between appliances and an integrated view of sensor
readings, live camera image, and recent alerts and sensor data.
A high level of alert customization is provided. For each sensor, the user can
specify timeframes when alerting will be enabled and when not. For dry contact
sensors, the user can customize meaningful labels for the sensor (e.g. “Glass
break”) and values (e.g. “Shattered”). The alert policy allows you to designate
multiple contacts for escalation purposes, or separate contacts for each sensor
type. Different alert actions can be triggered depending on threshold severity.
Multiple threshold types are available, including range, rate-of-change, and
alert state for a specified time.
Periodic sensor data and alert data and pictures can be delivered to other
applications via HTTP Post or FTP. Because NetBotz appliances support network
services such as DHCP, NTP, NAT, and Socks V4/5 proxy, the workload on the
network administrator is markedly reduced. And, an Advanced View screen allows
you to easily check for and download new versions and updates.
All transmissions to and from the NetBotz 500 can be SSL-encrypted, so there’s
no worry about information such as camera images being pilfered.
Advanced Device Crawlers extends physical threat monitoring to network equipment
such as servers, switches, and UPS’s.
NetBotz Central
NetBotz Central provides customers with a powerful tool for centralized
monitoring & management of multiple sites. They can arrange remote monitoring
appliances into groups for mass configuration operations, graphing & reporting.
Through the Alerts View, they can access past alerts—including pictures—by
group/date/appliance. The administrator can control which NetBotz appliances
each user can access and which operations they are allowed to perform. Although
some competitors have a remote Web interface to make configuration changes, none
offers centralized management software comparable to NetBotz Central. In any
sales situation where the prospect expects to grow beyond 10 appliances, NetBotz
Central should be a major consideration and competitors should have to answer
how they will provide this functionality.
