Job Openings @ VNS
Following are open positions at Valley Network Solutions.
Please note that unless you are local to this market (Central California), these
positions may not be a match for you. We do not currently have a
relocation plan, and it's important that any candidates for these positions
understand this market and be prepared to ramp-up in a short period.
Experience has indicated this is extremely difficult if you do not already live
here, but we will be willing to discuss this with any potential candidates from
out of the area if
you still feel that you'd like to apply to one of these positions.

Infrastructure Technician: This position shall be responsible for delivering infrastructure services to VNS customers in the field, reporting to our Infrastructure Services Manager. This includes voice and data cabling, fiber optic cabling, rack and patch panels, and wireless poles, and small wireless towers. This position requires an individual that enjoys working with their hands, does not mind getting dirty, and has a highly technical approach to the work they do.
Pride in your workmanship, quality, and productivity are key metrics of success in this position. Applicant should be able to work independently
but follow directions, be mature and responsible, and preferably have a truck to haul ladders, equipment and tools in.
You must own your own hand tools, and have experience with Category 3/5/6 cabling, fiber optic cabling, voice cabling and testing and certification tools. This is an important and highly technical position and requires a higher caliber of personnel than a basic laborer – VNS customers have come to expect more of us. Cabling sometimes gets underrated in this industry, by people who do not understand how complex and important infrastructure really is to a network, and we do not agree with that perspective
- we consider our infrastructure work to be as critical to how well a network
operates as the servers, routers, and software are.

Key certifications and/or real-world, hands-on applied
experience that would be useful for this position include (not required, but
they help):
 | BICSI RCDD course credits |
 | C7 contractor's license |
 | Manufacturer certifications from Panduit, BerkTek,
Ortronics, Fluke, Lucent, etc. |
 | CompTIA CEDIA, Microsoft MCP, CompTIA A+ or Network+
|
This position includes a base salary, full medical and 401k
retirement plan (after 90 days), along with our other standard benefits.

Systems Engineer: We
are always seeking experienced self-motivated technical professionals with a
strong degree of expertise in any of the following key technology areas, and
desire to develop those skills on an ongoing basis, through real-world,
hands-on applied experience:
 |
Microsoft: MCSE,
MCDBA, MS CRM certified, etc |
 | Cisco: CCDA, CCNA, CCVP, CCNP (CCDA or CCVP preferred) |
 |
CompTIA: A+,
Network+, Security+, Linux+, etc |
 |
Citrix: CCA, CCEA |
 |
Novell: CNA, CNE |
Folks with SQL Server, Novell NetWare, Citrix MetaFrame, Linux/Unix, and
HP/Compaq and/or Dell expertise are of particular interest at this time.
Ideal candidates will also posses what VNS considers entry-level general
skills and certification (see below). We will consider candidates without
certification and extensive experience if you can demonstrate that you
really know your stuff, and are willing to obtain industry-accepted
certifications that quantify this knowledge shortly after joining us. Recent
graduates or those with limited industry experience are generally not
advised to apply for a consulting position as it's rare that that will
provide you with the depth and breadth of experience that we require to fill
a consulting position, however, we're always willing to consider an
applicant who might be a "diamond in the rough". Applicants who've
previously done professional computer consulting, and/or who have an
existing local customer base will be of particular interest to us.
Additionally, hands-on, well rounded expertise is critical to succeed in
this position - we meet too many people that have lots of certifications, or
that have done one thing really well at a previous job, but don't even know
Exchange Server, or how to properly deploy anti-virus or backup software, or
set up a firewall. We do a lot of that here.

Microsoft CRM Systems/Applications
Integration Engineer:
We are seeking someone that can hit the ground running for this
position. Ability to design and provide pre-sales consulting on MS CRM is a
requirement. A passion for the technology is a requirement because if you do
not possess the desired Microsoft certifications, you'll be expected to obtain
them once you join VNS on a fairly aggressive timeframe. Although this
position is intended to be primarily focused on designing, deploying and
supporting MS CRM solutions, we are still developing our practice, so you will
need to be well-rounded technically and be capable of doing the "bread and
butter" network integration work that pays the bills until we can get you
fully ramped up, doing nothing but CRM integration. We are also a Cisco
VOIP certified partner so you will be working closely with our Cisco voice
engineers on some deployments to integrate these two systems (as we have in
our own offices), but if you also have some experience in this area, it would
prove helpful.
The ideal candidate will need to be well-rounded and can't
freeze up when put in front of a Windows or basic Cisco/networking problem.
Windows + Linux/Unix skills will be looked upon even more favorably. You must
have basic Cisco or HP ProCurve expertise since the application of fundamental
network skills in this environment is interdisciplinary by nature. The ideal
candidate will have a skill set that allows them to design, deploy and support
Microsoft CRM 3.0, including SQL and SBS setup/support, JavaScript/HTML
knowledge, and have a solid understanding of the OSI model. This
position will entail integrating MS CRM with 3rd party applications from
vendors such as C360, Cisco, etc. Key certifications
and/or real-world, hands-on applied experience required for this position
include:
 |
Microsoft: MCSE,
MCDBA, MS CRM certified, etc |
 | Cisco: CCDA, CCNA, CCVP, CCNP (CCDA or CCVP preferred) |
 |
Cisco
specialization in Aironet wireless, in VoIP (Call Manager Express or Call
Manager), Unity, Unity Express, or Cisco routing and switching, etc |
 |
CompTIA: A+,
Network+, Security+, Linux+, etc |
 |
Cisco specialization in security/VPN - IDS, Pix firewalls,
etc |
|
Ideal candidates will also posses what VNS considers entry-level general
skills and certification ( see
below). We will consider candidates without
certification or extensive experience if you can demonstrate that you really
know your stuff, and are willing to obtain industry-accepted certifications
that quantify this knowledge shortly after joining us. Recent graduates or
those with limited industry experience are generally not advised to apply for
a consulting position as it's rare that that will provide you with the depth
and breadth of experience that we require to fill a consulting position,
however, we're always willing to consider an applicant who might be a "diamond
in the rough". Applicants who've previously done professional computer
consulting, and/or who have an existing local customer base will be of
particular interest to us. Additionally, hands-on, well rounded expertise is
critical to succeed in this position.
The idea candidate should be organized and detail oriented
and have a friendly personality and be able to comfortably multi-task, and
thrive on a fast-paced, detail-oriented work environment. This position is
salaried and includes annual performance and salary reviews, along with our
other standard benefits. We generally will start people off at a lower
salary range until they've proven themselves through technical capability,
satisfied customers, and billable utilization.

Hiring Criteria
VNS hires based on 3 basic criteria: 1) experience and raw capability, 2)
proven success through certification and satisfied customers, and 3), a person
who is clearly customer focused. To succeed here, you must not only be
extremely talented technically, but you must also be the kind of person who
takes ownership of customer problems and treats them with the same degree of
priority, and respect as you would if they were your network problems. Lastly, we
look for mature, professional people who are looking to develop a career, and
prosper with us as we grow. We are not interested in short-timers or
people who do not intend to be with us long-term.
Additionally, we are a service company, and derive our revenue from
providing consulting services to our clients, so it's extremely important that
technical staff members make themselves billable here. To that end, compensation up to, and possibly beyond the probationary period may be
based solely upon billable work, requiring the employee to successfully demonstrate that they can be a
productive member of the team. The hourly pay rate will be commensurate
with a competitive salaried rate, and is based upon technical skills/ability, certification(s) and the ability to effectively communicate with, and manage
your customers. Technical staff who can effectively collaborate with the
sales team, and keep a good channel of communications open with their customer
base will be successful here.
Our
entry level candidates have either an A+/MCSE/CCNA, or have the ability to
demonstrate they have equivalent skill sets to an A+/MCSE/CCNA certification through
applied experience and training. This means you must be extremely
comfortable with, and adept at servicing and supporting Intel-based PCs and
servers, have a thorough understanding of Microsoft client/server operating
systems and have a solid understanding of TCP/IP and the OSI model. You must also
be highly motivated to learn and continue learning. Simply attaining a
certification is never enough here. Employees are encouraged and
expected to constantly pursue and achieve new certifications and not just to
"coast" on an MCSE or some other certification. We look to
hire technical "Ninjas", who want to be part of the very best in
Central California. We're pretty hard-core type-A workaholics, although
if you're really, really, really good, you can be an 8-5'er here.
Sales Qualifications
Applicants for Account Executive positions must have a solid
understanding of computer hardware, software and services. Applicants
without prior experience in this industry, or without solid computer knowledge
will only be considered if they can demonstrate that they can quickly learn
the technologies that we sell and support. We also look for account
execs who are willing to put their money where their mouth is - in other
words, if you say you can sell like wildfire, you will need to demonstrate
that by coming on board under a commission-centric compensation plan.
Sound Interesting?
VNS offers: Base salaries, cell/radio phone and medical/dental benefits. VNS also provides technical and sales training materials and pays for all passing tests
for our team members. We offer all employees the opportunity to
purchase computer products at our cost, in addition to the opportunity to
learn from and work
with the strongest technical team in the valley. Please submit all
resumes via email to Personnel Manager at
